how long does an engagement session last?
My engagement sessions are up to 90 minutes. This gives us plenty of time to relax into the session, explore our location and capture a good variety of photographs without feeling rushed
what happens during an engagement session?
There's no strict plan or list of poses to work through. Instead I'll encourage you to walk, dance, talk, laugh, cuddle and enjoy some time together while I capture the connection between you. Some of my favourite photographs happen in the moments between the prompts, when you're simply being yourselves.
do we need to know how to pose?
Not at all! Most couples I photograph tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera - and that's completely normal. You don't need to know what to do with your hands or how to stand. I'll gently guide you throughout the session with simple prompts and direction, while giving you plenty of space to simply enjoy being together.
what should we wear and how do we prepare for the shoot?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable. I usually recommend wearing clothes that complement each other, without any bright colours or busy patterns - neutral and earthy tones tend to work best. However, I'll send you a client guide before your session with lots more advice and ideas on what to wear.
can we bring anything personal to the session?
Definitely! If there's something that represents you as a couple or something you enjoy doing together, feel free to bring it along. Whether that's a picnic, a bottle of champagne, a blanket, bikes or anything else that feels like you. Don't worry if you can't think of anything - the two of you are more than enough.
where and when do the sessions take place?
I love photographing engagement sessions outdoors, whether that's at the beach, in the countryside, woodland or somewhere that has a special meaning to you. If you don't have a particular location in mind, don't worry - I'm happy to suggest some beautiful locations that work well for family sessions.
I generally photograph my engagement sessions around sunrise or sunset when the light is soft and flattering giving you that dreamy golden glow.
what happens if it rains?
Don't worry - a little rain doesn't necessarily mean we need to cancel! Cloudy skies, wind and even a bit of rain can create some beautiful and atmospheric photographs. If the weather really isn't suitable, we can simply rearrange your session for another available date. And if you fancy embracing the rain, I'm absolutely here for it. Think The Notebook - dancing, laughing and kissing in the rain!
can we use the photographs for our wedding?
Absolutely! Your engagement photographs can be used for save-the-dates, wedding invites, table decor or your wedding website. All your images will be ready to download from your personal online gallery, so you can print them however you see fit.
is an engagement session useful before our wedding?
Definitely! It gives you the chance to experience how I work without the pressure of your wedding day. You'll get to know my prompts and style and by the time your wedding comes around you should feel a lot more relaxed.
do you offer any discounts if we book our wedding photography with you?
Yes! Should you go ahead and book an engagement session with me, I'll give you £150 credit* towards your wedding photography. You'll receive the credit once your engagement shoot has been completed and final payment has been sent.
how much is a FAMILY session?
My family sessions are £300, with a £60 booking deposit to secure your date. The remaining £240 is due one week before your session. I accept payment by bank transfer only.
